Uncovering the etiology is the key to successful treatment. In the last
10-15 years in domestic scientific medicine there has been a loss of interest
in the study of the etiology and pathogenesis of bronchial asthma, there is a
massive introduction of practical proposals, to a greater extent associated
with the growing opportunities and prospects of pharmaceutical companies. But
the frequency of the disease continues to increase.
The concept approved by the author of the role of fungi of the genus Candida in
the activation of the inflammatory process in the bronchial tree with a
progressive course and the restructuring of the immunological response from
Th-1-helper to Th-2-pathological, followed by the formation of atopy , is most
realistic in explaining allergic ( antibody-mediated ) reactions with asthma
attacks .
The author’s reference to the increase among the population of cases of
candidiasis and at the same time bronchial asthma in the era of active use of
broad-spectrum antibiotics is an indisputable fact. In our own observations
from 1958 to 1975, we noted that among 907 patients with chronic pneumonia, 14
had candidal lesions of the lungs. A feature of the disease in half of them was
the presence of a pronounced asthmatic syndrome, including 2 diagnosed with
bronchial asthma, some had urticaria, skin vasculitis. Two years ago, we
presented a description of a patient with bronchial asthma with a fatal outcome
from candidal pneumonia and infective endocarditis of candidal etiology. The
author’s concept is relevant, it focuses on new approaches in the examination,
diagnosis and treatment of patients with bronchial asthma.
Asthmatics and Allergy sufferers in Russia
Almost half of the country’s population, 40 percent, suffer from
allergies and asthma. At the level of the Ministry of Health and the
government, it is necessary to solve the problem, reconsider the needs. 3.333
thousand people die from asthma every year. And these figures are only in 2007
– now this figure is much higher. But the deaths of many, many people could
have been prevented if they received timely and decent treatment. In addition,
medicines in hospitals are chronically lacking.
Asthma for many begins with a common allergic rhinitis. They try to treat him
in the usual ways without going to the doctor. And then it’s too late. The
range of allergens is expanding: if at the beginning of the disease, allergy
was observed only to plant pollen, then after a few years, they were joined by
house dust, animal hair, and much more that surrounds us. Then a severe flu,
SARS or a cold . And here’s a finished asthmatic for you. Official pulmonology
estimates that 10% of adults and 15% of children suffer from asthma. And this
means that in Russia there are about 10-15 million asthmatics alone. And when
the question is raised about the free provision of medicines to this army of
patients, it becomes clear that this is just a bluff. So at the current growth
rate of asthma and allergies in the world (every 10 years the incidence doubles
), Russian healthcare is waiting ugly prospects.
